Printed as if by magic

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if printing could at last be done without toner and ink? And the print still be beautifully black and resistant?

HERMA has made this dream come true, at least where labels are concerned. And where many thousands of labels are needed every day, that is something of a revolution. Because where best-before dates, serial numbers or other unique data have to be printed, entire packaging plants come to a standstill whenever the print supplies have to be topped up. And that costs a pretty packet – for the consumables and for the time spent idling.

But with a laser, labels can be inscribed as if by magic, without any consumables and virtually without maintenance.

The key to this is innovative laser-activated labels from HERMA. Made of paper, they are very similar to conventional labels, but have a special finish that allows a laser to “write” on them in black. The concentrated beam of light does not remove a layer from the label however; instead it causes a change of colour. There are two practical advantages to this: it does not damage the label and the print is resistant to smudging and scratches. The typefaces are razor sharp, even down to the smallest fonts, graphics and codes.

And that is very important – because in modern logistics labels must almost always be machine-readable. HERMA LAM labels are already in use in numerous fields, such as in the building materials, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, textile and food industries.
