Frequently asked questions about custom label production

  • What types of labels are available?

You can choose between three different types of labels, depending on what you need them for:

    Labels on sheets
For laser, inkjet and copier printers. This option is suitable if you need small to medium print volumes or if you want to print labels flexibly in an office or production environment.

    Labels on rolls
For direct thermal printers, thermal transfer printers or colour inkjet roll printers. Roll labels are ideal for continuous labelling, automatic applicators and industrial production lines where large quantities need to be processed efficiently.

    Labels on fanfold paper
For continuous matrix printers, direct thermal or thermal transfer printers. Fanfold labels (also known as computer labels, continuous labels or sprocket hole labels) are often used in logistics, manufacturing and inventory management. They enable long print runs and are particularly suitable for high volumes. Fanfold labels can be produced with or without sprocket holes.

  • What formats are possible for labels on sheets?

You can define the following parameters for labels on sheets:

    • Label format: width (mm) and height (mm)
    • Labels per sheet: number freely selectable
    • Label shape: rectangular, round, oval or special shape
    • Sheet formats: A3, A4, A5, A6 or special formats (e.g. SRA3 or custom sizes)

For custom label shapes, you can upload the die cut drawing directly as a file.

  • What formats are available for labels on rolls?

The following format options are available for roll labels:

    • Label format: width (mm) and height (mm)
    • Label shape: rectangular, round, oval or special shape

For custom label shapes, you can upload the die cut drawing directly as a file.

  • What formats are available for labels on fan-folded liner?

The following formats are available for continuous labels (endless labels):

    • Label format: width (mm) and height (mm)
    • Label shape: rectangular, round, oval or special shape

For custom label shapes, you can upload the die cut drawing directly as a file.

  • What materials can be requested?

Various label materials, adhesives and colour options are available for industrial applications. This allows the labels to be optimally adapted to environmental conditions, adhesion requirements and intended uses.

    • Label materials: paper, film, matt, film, glossy
    • Adhesives: permanent, extra strong, removable, suitable for deep freezing
    • Label colours: white, transparent (film), silver (film)

If you require other material properties, you can specify this under ‘Application’ or in the free text field in the ‘Contact’ tab.

  • Can the labels also be printed directly by HERMA?

Yes, the labels can either be delivered unprinted or printed directly by HERMA.

    • Possible print variants:: ● Single colour ● Multi-colour
    • Colour options: Printing in CMYK or according to defined colour systems (e.g. Pantone colours)

You can upload your print data directly for label printing. Please note the requirements for print data.

  • What information is important when it comes to label application?

In order to design labels correctly from a technical perspective and ensure reliable adhesion, we need some information about the intended application. This information helps us to optimally match the material, adhesive and label structure to your environment.

    • Surface to which the label will be applied
Please describe the nature of the surface as accurately as possible, for example:
      ● Paper or cardboard ● Plastic, metal, glass ● Straight or curved surfaces ● Textured, rough or dusty surfaces ● The specific object or application (e.g. packaging, container, machine)
    • Special conditions of use
HERMA requires information on environmental or process conditions that may affect adhesion or durability, such as:
      ● Hot filling (e.g. labelling at high temperatures) ● Damp, wet or cold environments ● Refrigerated or frozen applications ● Dusty, oily or rough surfaces ● Contact with chemicals ● Outdoor applications or UV exposure
    • Type of labelling
Please specify how the label is applied:
      ● Manually (by hand) ● Automatically using labelling machines / applicators / production lines
  • What quantities of labels can I request?

You can freely enter the required quantity in terms of number of sheets or number of labels, which will serve as the basis for preparing a quote.

Our industrial range is intended for commercial customers only (B2B).

If you require labels in smaller quantities, e.g. for printing with your laser printer, we recommend HERMA standard labels in small packaging units.

  • Where can I enter my contact details?

In the last tab of the form, you can send us a personal message in addition to your contact details.
