Seawater-resistant inkjet labels on sheets or rolls

Self-adhesive labels for inkjet printing systems, on rolls or A4 sheets, in your desired format

In the past, laser printers were usually used as printers for seawater-resistant labels with hazardous substance content.

Technical advances in inkjet printers – from small desktop models to high-capacity industrial printers – have meanwhile opened up a wide spectrum of industrial applications. These colour printers are of particular interest for creating GHS labels.

British Standard-certified HERMA labels are also available for these inkjet printing systems (on sheets and rolls).

With the professional inkjet printers for labels on rolls, variable imprints, hazard symbols in colour and different texts are all possible and individually printable, even for small runs and a wide range of types, with no storage necessary. These printers are particularly well suited for printing colour labels. This produces seawater-proof inkjet labels with print results of high colour brilliance and consistent print quality, at high speed and just-in-time. The print image is smudge-proof and waterproof thanks to the special coating on the film labels’ surface. The adhesive is temperature-resistant and offers best adhesion even on critical surfaces. These labels also repel oil and dirt.

These seawater-proof inkjet labels meet the stringent requirements of British Standard BS 5609 under Section 2 and Section 3 (using the printing systems listed below):

  • White, matt polypropylene film, self-adhesive
  • Material with special surface coating for water-based inkjet printing
  • Best print quality and colour fixing on the film, no smudging of the ink
  • Weather-resistant, oil and dirt-repellent
  • Temperature resistant from -30°C to +80°C
  • These film labels also adapt well to curved surfaces Exceptionally good adhesion, even on critical surfaces
  • British Standard Section 3-certified in conjunction with the following printing systems (inkjet printers): Epson TM-C3500 and Colorworks TM-C7500 / Epson Colorworks TM-C7500G / Primera LX2000e / Kiaro D (pigmented inks), HP Pagewide Technology

We can use this adhesive film to produce labels on sheets in A4 and other formats, as well as for labels on rolls and in fanfolded format. Inkjet roll labels for colour inkjet printers offer the advantage that they can also be applied to chemical containers and packaging by machine.

Frequently asked questions about seawater-resistant inkjet labels

  • What are seawater-resistant inkjet labels?

Seawater-resistant inkjet labels are specially coated film labels designed for water-based inkjet printing systems that can print labels on rolls. These inkjet labels for water-based printing meet the requirements of British Standard BS 5609 and can therefore easily withstand extreme conditions such as seawater, moisture, oil and dirt.

  • What are seawater-resistant inkjet labels used for?

They are often used for hazardous substance labelling, industrial marking, logistics, packaging and GHS labels. Thanks to their high colour brilliance and durability, they are ideal for applications where safety and durability are crucial.

  • What are the advantages of inkjet labels over laser-printed labels?

Inkjet labels for water-based inkjet printing enable:

    • brilliant colour prints,
    • high printing speeds,
    • flexible small batches without warehousing,
    • automatic application to chemical containers and packaging in labelling systems.

Thanks to the further development of industrial inkjet printers, they are now a fully-fledged alternative to laser-printed labels, with the major advantage that they can be processed by machine, unlike laser-printed labels on sheets, which have to be applied manually.

  • Are the inkjet labels certified according to BS 5609?

Yes. HERMA's seawater-resistant inkjet labels meet the strict requirements of British Standard BS 5609 Section 2 and also Section 3 in conjunction with certain printer types and inks.

  • Which printers are the seawater-resistant inkjet labels compatible with?

The labels are certified according to BS5609 for the following printing systems, among others:

    • Epson TM‑C3500
    • Epson ColorWorks TM‑C7500 & TM‑C7500G
    • Primera LX2000e
    • Kiaro D (pigmented inks)
    • HP Pagewide technology

This makes them ideal for professional colour label printers.

  • What are the material properties of seawater-resistant inkjet labels?

The labels are made of white, matt polypropylene (PP) film. They are characterised by:

    • special surface coating for water-based inkjet printing,
    • best print quality and colour anchoring, no ink smudging
    • strong adhesive for critical surfaces,
    • temperature resistance from –30 °C to +80 °C.

They are also weatherproof, oil and dirt repellent, and adapt well to curved surfaces.
