Individual printing of seawater-resistant, laser print labels

Self-adhesive labels for laser & colour laser printers or copiers, on A4 sheets, in your desired format

Laser and colour laser printers in combination with BS 5609-certified film labels from HERMA are the ideal solution for printing short runs with individual imprints and frequently changing data

We offer you a variety of label materials made from different types of film for printing seawater-resistant labels with laser printers. All sheet labels made from laser materials meet the stringent requirements of British Standard Section 2. The PE laser material is also British Standard Section 3-certified when used in conjunction with specific printing systems. This means that the lettering of the printed image also meets the requirements for legibility and abrasion resistance under the influence of salt water.

We will be happy to answer your questions and provide you with an individual offer for these special labels. Use the contactform to reach us – it’s fast and easy.

Differences in film materials for seawater-resistant laser print labels – when to use which film?

All film materials for laser printers have one thing in common: even on critical surfaces, the seawater-resistant laser print labels adhere particularly firmly and securely and they can withstand high levels of stress. HERMA film labels are age-resistant and they repel oil and dirt. However, there are differences, especially in terms of flexibility and elasticity.

The PE laser film (polyethylene film) is very flexible and it also adapts well to curved surfaces.

Polyester films are particularly robust, tearproof and dimensionally stable, which makes them especially suitable for labelling on straight surfaces.

Laser labels made of impregnated special paper are an economically interesting alternative to film materials. They are made from natural and synthetic fibres without optical brighteners and are FSC® Mix Credit-certified.

Additional properties are also important, depending on the intended use of the stickers. The films differ mainly in flexibility and this plays an important role in identification, especially for applying adhesive to round or uneven surfaces.

Clean sheet edges – no soiling of equipment

We produce millions of seawater-proof laser print labels for applications in the chemical industry. Thanks to a special die-cutting technique in our production, we succeed in keeping the edges of the A4 labels clean and adhesive-free, despite a high adhesive application. This reliably prevents adhesive particles from being deposited in the printer.

Flawless printer throughput – reliable processing – best printing results

HERMA’s film labels have been subjected to extensive device tests on laser and colour laser printers. The sheet labels are characterised by particularly good running properties – for reliable and trouble-free processing in the printer. Toner fixation is exceptionally good, both in black & white and in colour, giving you the best print results, even with small fonts and barcodes.

Please observe the machine manufacturer’s recommendations for processing heavy materials (settings in the print menu and material feed/cartridge).

Seawater-proof, laser print labels made of polyester film:

These polyester labels on A4 sheets are extremely durable and are resistant to mechanical influences such as scratches. They are weather and UV-resistant, making them highly suitable for outdoor use.

Polyester film is particularly sturdy and tearproof. The labels are also suitable for higher temperatures and for humid environments (e.g. as rating plates).

  • Made of white matt polyester film, sturdy and tearproof
  • Weather-resistant, oil and dirt-repellent
  • Adhesive and labels are temperature-resistant from -40°C to +150°C
  • Outstanding adhesion, even on critical surfaces
  • Also suitable for hot filling
  • Suitable for laser printers and copiers, and for colour laser printers and colour copiers
  • British Standard Section 2-certified

Labels made of white polyester film can also be equipped with a pressure-sensitive adhesive that has a temperature range of -30°C to +80°C. These labels are particularly suitable for smooth glass or metal surfaces.

Seawater-resistant laser print labels made of impregnated special paper:

Laser labels made of impregnated special paper are an economically interesting alternative to film materials. They are made from natural and synthetic fibres without optical brighteners and are FSC® Mix Credit-certified.

  • Made of impregnated, white special paper
  • Made from natural and synthetic fibres with no optical brighteners
  • FSC® Mix Credit-certified
  • Flexible, they also adapt well to curved surfaces
  • Weather-resistant, ideal for heavy-duty labelling in outdoor areas
  • Age-resistant, oil and dirt-repellent
  • Temperature resistant from -30°C to +80°C
  • Suitable for laser printers and copiers, and for colour laser printers and colour copiers

Frequently asked questions about seawater-resistant laser print labels

  • What are seawater-resistant laser print labels?

Seawater-resistant laser print labels are specially developed, self-adhesive labels that can withstand extreme conditions such as salt water, UV radiation, dirt and abrasion. They meet the requirements of the BS 5609 standard and are particularly suitable for industrial applications where permanent labelling is necessary, such as in the area of hazardous goods labelling on all transport routes.

  • Which printers are seawater-resistant laser print labels suitable for?

These labels are suitable for laser printers, colour laser printers and copiers. They are supplied on A4 sheets and can be produced in your desired label format. They are ideal for printing small runs with customised printing or frequently changing data.

  • What materials are available for seawater-resistant laser print labels?

There are three types of material to choose from:

    • PE laser film (polyethylene) – highly flexible and ideal for curved surfaces
    • Polyester film (PET) – extremely robust and tear-resistant, ideal for smooth surfaces and outdoor areas
    • Impregnated special paper – an economical alternative with high resistance

All material types meet the strict requirements of British Standard Section 2 for seawater resistance.

The PE laser material is also certified according to British Standard Section 3 in conjunction with certain printing systems. This means that the label print also meets the requirements for legibility and abrasion resistance of the print image under the influence of salt water.

  • What are PE laser print labels particularly suitable for?

PE laser labels are particularly suitable for product labelling, tracking and logistics labels, e.g. on pallets, drums or containers.

    • They are very flexible and stretchable and adapt well to curved surfaces.
    • They adhere extremely well, even to rough or textured surfaces.
    • They are seawater certified according to BS 5609 Section 3 (in conjunction with certain printing systems).
    • Adhesive and labels are temperature resistant from -40°C to +150°C and are also suitable for hot filling.
  • What are the advantages of polyester laser printing labels?

    Polyester labels are;

    • robust and extremely tear-resistant,
    • resistant to scratches and mechanical stress,
    • UV and weather resistant,
    • oil and dirt repellent,
    • dimensionally stable and therefore particularly suitable for straight and smooth surfaces,
    • seawater certified according to British Standard Section 2.

They are ideal for outdoor applications, type plates or use at high temperatures.

  • When should I use labels made from impregnated special paper?

These labels are a more cost-effective alternative, yet are weather-resistant and durable. They are FSC® Mix Credit certified and are well suited for outdoor applications or when a flexible, environmentally friendly solution is required. The label material is resistant to ageing and weathering and adapts well to curved containers.

  • What does BS 5609 certification mean?

The BS 5609 standard defines requirements for seawater resistance.

Section 2: The label material itself is tested for durability in salt water.

Section 3: In addition, the print image is tested for abrasion resistance – i.e. whether the lettering remains legible even after exposure to salt water.
