Traceability in the automotive industry and in the railway sector
Just in time – with labels from HERMA
In the manufacturing industry, goods must be delivered to the right place at the right time. Costs are incurred if the products do not arrive reliably at their destination. Just-in-time delivery is used in the automotive industry for reasons of economy.
To ensure that all parts are available in the right quantity and at the right place and time, all suppliers must have a functioning tracking and tracing system.
Batch tracing is required by automobile manufacturers who have quality agreements with suppliers. The relevant standards are DIN EN10204 (test certificates for metallic materials), ISO/TS16949, DIN EN9100 and Iris (railway standard).

The usage scenario: traceable labelling of packages, cartons and pallets
Barcodes on packaging, cartons and pallets contain essential information. Legible and error-free labels are a prerequisite for the complete documentation of the production and supply chain.
Secure adhesion on packaging, cartons, transport containers and shrink films is just as crucial as the reliable readability of the barcode. If labels cannot be read properly, the result will be incorrect entries. If material is missing, production will come to a standstill.
From the raw material to the final product, labels accompany the manufacturing process at every stage, enabling continuous traceability. They ensure that the right parts are correctly allocated in production. A manufacturing process without labels – unthinkable!

The solution: labels on rolls or sheets, individually printable in your in-house production and packaging processes
HERMA produces unprinted labels on rolls for these usage scenarios. Barcodes, batch numbers and batch descriptions are individually printed using thermal transfer printers or direct thermal printers during the manufacturing process. Colour inkjet roll printers are also increasingly being used, and HERMA offers labels with surfaces that are specially adapted to this printing system.
If you use laser printers, we can offer you labels on sheets in individual label sizes, also with perforations on request – all ideally suited to your usage scenario.
Yet another HERMA strength is the design and production of fully printed barcode labels on rolls. We will print all barcode types for you, with fixed or consecutive numbering – and we can also offer you database-supported processing and management of your number ranges.
The rough surfaces of packaging cartons place exceptionally high demands on the adhesive strength of the labels. The pressure-sensitive adhesive we use gives you the best adhesive properties and a powerful tack, which is particularly important for machine labelling at high packaging speeds.
Depending on the demands made on the service life of the label, HERMA uses different adhesive materials from its in-house production to meet your requirements.
A paper label is usually sufficient for packaging and cardboard boxes since the usage period is limited. On the other hand, the labels are often used for longer periods if they are attached to re-usable transport boxes in internal logistics. Extremely durable labels are required for the labelling of spare part packaging, which might be in a storage facility for several months or even years. PE or PET film labels with powerful adhesives are used in these cases.
