Less packaging variants thanks to labels using the example of paint cans for wood stains

It is obvious: if uniformly printed containers can be procured in large quantities, this is much more economical than procuring cans in small quantities with a specific imprint on the metal can for each colour variant.

Usually, paint cans for wood stains have the same product description and declaration, and differ only in the colour shade. The product information, which is identical for all colour shades, is printed directly on the can in this application.

Labels turn the printed ‘universal’ cans into customised product packaging.

The stocking of ‘colour tone’ labels is more economical, both in terms of storage volume and disposition, as well as procurement costs.

The labels are printed with the colour shade, the colour name and other individual production information. The shape of the label depends on the container. As a rule, the colour labels are labelled on the lid of the ring bin or ring can.

On the one hand, this is particularly visible at the point of sale, and on the other hand, it is better for later use during processing, as colour splashes on the side of the metal can can quickly lead to the product information no longer being fully legible.

When filling, the labels can also be supplemented with production-specific information by subsequent printing, e.g. using thermal transfer printing (e.g. filling date).

Particularly important in this application is the secure adhesion of the labels to the metal lids of the patent lid pail or the patent lid can (tinplate).

For this application, we choose labelling material that offers particularly good adhesion to metal surfaces, such as tinplate. This ensures that the product information remains on the container and is permanently available, even during transport or storage in the DIY store.

The wood shade is printed according to your print data on modern digital printing machines. This is a particularly cost-effective solution, even for small and medium runs with a large variety of types.

The label example shows a round label, printed in wood tone, with a white ‘labelling field’ in which the product-specific data is printed during filling.

These are usually the article description, the barcode, the article number, as well as information on the batch number, filling date and the filling quantity.

It is particularly interesting if the size of the labels is selected so that they can be used on standard containers of different sizes (e.g. the same colour pre-printed label for 1-litre cans and 5-litre cans, only the subsequent printing of the article data varies). This makes it easier for you to organise and stock the labels, and the bundling of required quantities can result in larger batch sizes, which of course leads to savings in procurement.
