Labels for the beverages industry: ideal for humid bottling environments

Smooth operation, prompt delivery and maximum reliability are all essential in the beverages industry. Transport labels also play a particularly important role, since they ensure that each delivery gets to the correct recipient. Internal processes are also accompanied by labels, on cartons and transport containers such as drinks crates and crate frames. Labels for the beverages industry in wet areas

Here labels are required that can be attached securely and mechanically in wet areas with extremely high humidity. They must adhere permanently to drinks crates and pallet shrink films with uneven surfaces. The attachment of the labels for drinks crates is done by machine. The labels themselves have a limited lifespan, even when securely attached. It is also essential that the labels on rolls can be easily and quickly inserted and exchanged in the label printer integrated into the packaging system.

The moist surfaces of the drinks crates and shrink films pose a particular challenge. A HERMA label with a pressure-sensitive adhesive is used for this usage scenario in the beverages industry. The label adheres remarkably quickly and securely to surfaces of all kinds, even under moist conditions.

The label on the boxes and pallet films has a limited life, so we manufacture these labels from paper. The high-contrast label paper offers best printing results, even with small fonts and barcodes: for reliable barcode readability, even from a greater distance.

A plastic roll core is used in this usage scenario. It ensures that the label rolls can be quickly and safely changed in the printer. Conventional paper cores would swell under these damp conditions, making roll changes more difficult.

One particular difficulty occurs here when the pallet shrink films continue to shrink after delivery on the transport route from the manufacturer to the customer. The barcode label on the uneven surface becomes wrinkled and the barcode printed on it is no longer easy to read. In this case, we recommend the use of a special removable adhesive: the label can be removed undamaged during the recipient’s incoming goods inspection and re-applied to the film smoothly with no wrinkles. When this has been done, the barcode is then perfectly readable.
