Mascara labels, lipstick labels & more: Labelling cosmetic pencils with barcodes and item-specific data

Beauty pencils such as kajals, eyebrow pencils, lip pencils, lipsticks, mascara and eyeliner have two things in common. 

Firstly, they come in a wide variety of colours, in a uniform wooden or plastic body. However, item-specific labelling of each individual pen is required for the journey from manufacturer to retailer to end consumer. Printing each pen variant on an item-specific basis does not make economic or process-related sense. Labels for cosmetic pencils with colour designation and barcode offer the ideal solution here.

Secondly: the pencils are round, with a very small diameter. Or have curved irregular surfaces, as often found on the caps of lipsticks or mascara.The labels for cosmetic pencils must fit snugly around the tight radii and the smooth or rough surface of the pencils and must not come off by themselves, even when stored for long periods.

The labels are dispensed by machine during the manufacturing process at very high cycle rates. Here too, maximum processing reliability is essential, as a label that comes off the backing paper prematurely during dispensing or detaches from the pen during further transport can quickly lead to malfunctions and downtime.

Cosmetic pencils can be labelled with paper or, ideally, foil labels.

It is important that these labels for cosmetic pencils are equipped with a particularly strong adhesive that ensures reliable adhesion, both during automatic dispensing and during transport. Even on retail shelves, when many cosmetic pencils are placed next to and on top of each other in a confined space, HERMA labels for cosmetic pencils do not come off.

For use as labels for lipstick tubes, lip balm labels and labels for cosmetic pencils, we recommend film labels made of polyethylene or polypropylene, which are particularly pliable, flexible and stretchable. These films are ideal for labelling curved surfaces, including objects and sleeves with a small diameter (strong curvature).

Polythene film labels are available with a white matt or glossy surface. They are moisture-resistant, waterproof and have a temperature range of -20 to +60C. 

Our polypropylene film labels have a pearl-coloured glossy surface, are resistant to chemicals and moisture, waterproof and can be used from -30 to +80 °C.

The adhesive in 2-layer technology has has extremely high initial adhesion, even at high labelling speeds, which is important for dispensing labels for cosmetic sticks in automatic systems. It is also characterised by extreme final adhesion, which is essential on curved objects with a small diameter. When applied, the adhesive is insensitive to moisture, soaps and oils and is therefore particularly suitable for applications in the cosmetics industry, such as lip balm labels, lipstick labels and labels for all types of cosmetic pencils. It has good resistance to light, heat and ageing.
