Labels for dusty production environments & sacks designed to hold building materials
Print laser-activated product labels within your production process, in combination with a CO2 laser and a labelling machine.
The usage scenario: labels for dusty sacks designed to hold building materials
Print with neither toner nor ink – and still produce extremely hard-wearing labels with optimal printing properties? This IS possible with HERMA LAM labels (laser-activated labels) and a CO2 laser printing system.
Where many thousands of labels are needed every day, this new type of label system offers a wide range of advantages that are also very interesting from a cost perspective.
Because where best-before dates, serial numbers or other individual data have to be printed, entire packaging plants come to a standstill when the print media have to be replaced. And that costs a pretty packet – both for the consumables and for the time spent idling.
Labels for dusty environments
The labelling of sacks designed to hold building materials is a real challenge. Labels with a powerful tack and very strong final adhesion are needed for these rough and frequently very dusty surfaces. The irregular curved surfaces can also be problematic.
What is needed here is a labelling system that is integrated into the filling process and enables clear identification on dusty surfaces – without any machine downtime.

The solution: three components – an ingenious system: laser-activated label material, plus a CO2 laser and a labelling machine
As if inscribed by magic: the labels can be printed with a laser in a contact-free procedure – at breakneck speed, without any extra consumables and with virtually no maintenance work.
The key to this? Innovative laser-activated labels from HERMA. They are made of a special paper and hardly differ visually from conventional white paper labels. However, the labels are equipped with a unique embellishment – a laser can ‘write’ black print on them. The concentrated beam of light does not remove a layer from the label.
Instead it goes through a kind of colour change. This has two major advantages in practice: the label is not damaged, and the imprint is smudge-proof and scratch-resistant. A complete print is produced in fractions of a second and even small fonts and barcodes are printed with sharp contours and excellent black-white contrast. This is particularly important because the label has to be easily machine-read at all stages of the logistics processes.
Ideal labels for dusty environments
The LAM system really shines in dusty production environments, such as here in the cement industry during the filling process. No printers choked up by dust, no additional consumables, perfect labelling without stopping the packaging line.
The outstanding features of HERMA laser systems:
- Three components – all from a single source
- Laser-activated labels in combination with a CO2 laser and a HERMA labelling machine
- Printing and labelling directly within the production process
- Even in dusty production environments
- Sharply contoured prints, even with small fonts and barcodes
- Low maintenance, no additional consumables, minimal operating costs
- In your desired format
Can be used in many sectors
HERMA LAM labels are already in use in numerous fields, such as in the building materials, chemical, pharmaceutical, cosmetics, textile and food industries. Our many references from customers say it all.
We produce LAM labels in your desired format: blank or individually pre-printed.
Special laser-activated labels in combination with a CO2 laser and a HERMA labelling machine open up a host of new possibilities for product labelling.
