Self-adhesive material for the Zero Waste hierarchy

When it comes to true sustainability, it's not enough to do something. It's about doing everything differently. That's why we are constantly on the lookout for raw material alternatives and innovative starting materials. So that you can always meet the new market requirements according to the Zero Waste Hierarchy - no matter at which level: Prevent, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Recover, Dispose.

Our GreenGuide shows you how you can already rethink far-reaching today. In this way, you can help your customers to bring about positive change in many applications. You can search online in the GreenGuide conveniently and quickly for the optimal sustainable material. You can also download it for a good overview.

Our claim is always: Honestly sustainable - damn close! This also applies to our own actions. For example, we want to achieve net zero emissions by 2040. By 2030, we will have already reduced our own emissions by more than 42 percent. You can find out where we currently stand and where we want to go in our GreenMission.

HERMAgreenMission

Truly sustainable – almost there!

Here at HERMA we are abandoning all fossil fuels and committing wholesale to green electricity instead. As a member of the worldwide Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi), we have pledged to take voluntary action towards achieving science-based climate targets in order to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels in the period to 2100. This matches the objective set forth in the Paris Agreement, which was ratified by 195 nations and the EU in 2015. For the around 3,000 companies that have already joined the initiative, the goals set by the SBTi are much more ambitious and binding than many general climate declarations. These are often based only on what is considered possible at the time. In contrast, the SBTi is guided by what is absolutely essential. Against this backdrop, we have mapped out our sustainability pathway to 2040.

We navigate you to the right product

There are four initial scenarios in label production. Either the label should be made of resource-saving materials (Reduce), support the circular economy in its application and recyclability (Reuse or Recycle) or consist of compostable materials (Recover). Here at HERMA, you will find a solution for all four hierarchy levels. First determine the sustainability aspect for your label application: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle or Recover. Click on the buttons in the hierarchy to access our product recommendations for you.

HERMA’s innovative adhesive materials
enable you right from the start to make decisions about your product range that maximise sustainability. That’s because HERMA rigorously pursues a policy it calls ReThink.

By continuously searching for alternative
and innovative raw and input materials, we can help you consistently meet contemporary market expectations and calls to the zero-waste hierarchy. On this basis, you will be able to initiate a more extensive realignment and bring about a positive change with your customer and user solutions.

The ReThink approach perceives the life span of every product as a continuous cycle,
which entails both the initial use of reprocessed materials and their recycling after use. Wherever gaps in the cycle are unavoidable, resource consumption and waste have to be kept to a minimum. And, whenever possible, the use of renewable raw materials is recommended.

In label production, these considerations can be addressed from four different starting points.
Either the label is to be produced from low-impact materials (Reduce), to support the circular economy by way of its application and recyclability (Reuse or Recycle), or it is to be produced from compostable materials (Recover). For each of these four hierarchy levels, you will find your sample labels for the right HERMA material on the next pages.
